The Entrepreneur Shit!

Image
Permit me to use the word "shit" as I sincerely hope not to offend your sensibilities. A notification popped on my laptop, notifying me of an event hosted by Founders Institute that I needed to register for at www.fi.co Trust me, since it had to do with meeting the CEO of SimplePay , Mr. Simeon Ononobi and the CEO of Tsaboin (The traffic app that seriously gist's us on traffic in Lagos) Mr. Dele Odufuye , at a Superb location Savoy Suites, G.R.A Ikeja, Why not! I noted it on my calendar and made it there. Funny enough, as privileged meetings go, it was for the Exclusive "we" and that is where my shenanigans start. It was quite amazing to see the passion, discipline and focus written on these men faces as they narrated their experience, Thank God they didn't tell stories else....else what? I would have still sat there. As, I was saying, they spoke about how they Pitched their ideas, got funding and the pitfalls of a bad pitch.  As they spoke, ...

Who No Like Vacation Trip...But na money things

Image
Truth be told, I have always wondered why the " Real " Nigerians don't go on vacation and when I say "Real", I mean the everyday man that earns an average of 250000 per annum. I watch a white fella wake up on a rainy day, pick a flight to God knows where to have their " Meeee" time.  Mr. 2kay sang " Who no like better thing" and tchai,  na money kill am o (who doesn't like the good life, it just involves money) .  When a man wakes up by 4 am to beat traffic (Literally!) only to arrive the office at 7:45, meeting a screaming boss! -not all bosses are wicked, Just saying. Rushes home to miss dinner, because he had another rendezvous with traffic again. With his meagre salary, annoying economy and many extended responsibilities, how do you expect him to budget for a vacation? Not to mention, he can't even use his proverbial leave days... Blahhh! This is the reality of the Nigerian dude against his hopes and wishes of having that d...

Why You Just Won't Read!! (cause you are BLACK)

Image
Its quite amazing, how many things are said through words but none is really heard, especially when it is in the written form. Someone said "To keep Information from the Black man, Hide it in books" and I do agree. Yesterday, the initial comments on Women were born lazy from some pals made me realize that they just skimmed through the headlines and passed their thoughts without taking time to do the body justice. Well, I do understand why they never have time. The economy is so good that they can't afford to buy a book per month, and the stress of putting something on their table saps them of any energy left to even peruse the pages. Oh, the library is quite far, moreover Libraries are for geeks and the Academia. Tell me, who goes to the Library when we have E-libraries. Wait, the E-library on your phone is just an app that makes people deem you learned or preferably, you just like the graphics of the app. Are we too lazy to read or it is really true that our ...

Women were born LAZY! (African women especially!)

Image
Women are very lazy! You would agree with  me, especially the typical African woman and not these new hybrid ones with ideas of feminism! A bundle of wood on the head a babe sitting on the behind. Two bags of groceries to balance her weight, Of course! Her shape is worth the wait. Oil soaked hands Blood filled basin Smoky arena of aroma Sizzling dances on  fire Dusty bands Six bedrooms to be whitewashed; Sparkling reflection of your crooked teeth on the floor you step on with your muddy trodden soles Sanctifying your Children bodies for school, The backpack on the go No "mama put" would ever do as if she didn't bear the kids for you She runs the show for the boss making minimal their loss healthcare check for the kids what excuse would take her out of office Fresh dinner is what he loves, not that microwaved thrash she does. So, to the stalls of vegetables and all -she's off Gosh, why wouldn't she get the cough This woman i...

Am so excited, thrilled, hyperactive and you all know our love for Aunty Adele can never be lost. Lailai! Imagine how I felt when I first heard the name " Adele ", I thought it was one of our Aunts that traveled out and forget us but naahhh, It wasn't. With her Album 21 playing on repeat on my small phone (You should have seen the phone, Tchai!) , I was downcast when her voice hmmmnnnn "You know, thatszall" and she just disappeared for three years. Suddenly, she teased us with a voice trailer of " HELLO " during the intermission of that daily what sef...and Yes, the Video of " HELLO " is out, directed by Xavier Dolan. Haunting Dreams

Image
With the hustle and bustle of the everyday life, our pressing goals are at times relegated to the back. Education, Marriage, Work, Kids and the likes are pretty important to us but in the long run, you will ask yourself this question Where went the dreams Where went the dreams of glory and fame, of shining lights and interviews? Is this the end result of the game? Where went the visions they saw under the palm trees, of companies and conglomerates, of airlines and reverence? Is this the idea that they got, to serve as gate-men in the village-square, revered storytellers in the local church? Where went the missions to liberate their families, of the shackles of poverty presiding over their lives? Is this their contribution to sink deeper in the mire? Where went the goals, the reason they were created, to affect posterity in a magnified way? Is it laziness that brought them here? Where went their purpose -That, I can answer! It's gone. G...
